Parry Sound in Bloom

The Parry Sound in Bloom initiative celebrates the efforts of our residents to beautify our community.  Register your garden for the chance to be recognized by the Town of Parry Sound in 1 of 3 categories.  

Contest Categories

General: An appealing front yard that catches your eye. Yards should contain at least 25% flowering plants over the area (ex. pots, containers, flowering trees, shrubs, mosses, and grasses are all included in this category).

Natural: A yard with native plants that attract local wildlife such as birds, bees, butterflies, and other insects. Although rocks and other features add to the texture of any yard, the yard should still contain the basic minimum of 25% plant life to be considered in any category. As a guideline - of all the plants found in these yards, at least 60% must be native to Ontario.

Edible: A yard incorporating edible fruits, flowers, and leaves into the landscape design. Landscaping includes everything from vegetables and grains to fruiting trees, berry bushes, or even mushrooms.  As a guideline - of all the plants found in these yards, at least 60% must be edible.

Prizes & Voting

The top garden in each category will be awarded with a $200 gift certificate to their choice of local home improvement store.  Gardens which receive an honourable mention will be awarded a $100 gift certificate to their choice of local home improvement store

Voting will take place between August 12-16, 2024. A Town of Parry Sound Team will be created to vote on the submissions, selecting 1^st place, and honorable mention in each category. The Team will be comprised of two members of Council, one member of the Senior Leadership Team, one unionized staff person and one non-unionized staff person.
